London travel news LIVE: Trains to King's Cross delayed by 40 minutes due to 'trespass incident'

Trains travelling to and from London King’s Cross were delayed by up to 40 minutes on Thursday evening following a “trespass incident” near Peterborough.

National Rail said lines were forced to close while the incident and services could also be cancelled or revised.

Routes impacted include CrossCountry services between Birmingham New Street and Stansted Airport, and Grand Central trains between King’s Cross and Bradford Interchange, as well as to Sunderland.

Trains from King’s Cross to Hull and Beverley are also impacted as well as LNER services from the London station to Lincoln, Leeds, Harrogate, Skipton, Sunderland and Edinburgh.

Earlier on Thursday Stansted Express trains running between the London airport and Liverpool Street Station were disrupted by an “operational issue”.

Chaos on London Overground

A fault with the signalling system between Willesden Junction and Acton Central is causing disruption to services running to / from Stratford. As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised, National Rail said.

Trains are currently suspended between Willesden Junction and Richmond.

Disruption is expected until 8am.

There are also severe delays between New Cross Gate and West Croydon / Crystal Palace following a late finish of engineering work, Transport for London said.

Disruption affecting Southern rail services

Southern and Thameslink services can now run in both directions between London Bridge, and south London stations Norwood Junction or Crystal Palace, says Southern.

Overrunning engineering works earlier meant some trains weren’t stopping at these stations.

However, Southern says there may still be some “short notice amendments” while it works to return to its normal timetable.

Major disruption expected until 9am

In bad news for morning commuters, National Rail warns disruption affecting Overground, Southern and Thameslink services is due to last until 9am.

The disruption is due to overrunning engineering works, and a points failure between New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace/Norwood Junction.

All lines have reopened, but National Rail says trains may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes, or revised.

The services affected are:

• London Overground services between Dalston Junction / Highbury & Islington / New Cross Gate and Crystal Palace / West Croydon

• Southern services between London Bridge and Caterham / Epsom / Littlehampton / London Victoria / Purley / Streatham Hill / Uckfield

• Thameslink services between Bedford and Brighton / East Grinstead / Gatwick Airport / Three Bridges, and between Cambridge and Brighton, also between Peterborough and Horsham

Disruption through Strawberry Hill expected until midday

There is a signalling problem at Strawberry Hill in west London, meaning trains running through the area “may be delayed, revised or cancelled”, says National Rail.

Trains are having to run at a reduced speed on all lines.

Services to and from London Waterloo are among those affected.

Disruption is expected until 12pm, says National Rail.

Minor delays on District Line due to faulty train

Trains back up and running on Overground but severe delays persist

The Overground is back up and running, after the stretch between Willesden Junction and Richmond was suspended earlier due to a signal failure at Acton Central.

Severe delays continue between Willesden Junction and Richmond however, says TfL.

Earlier delays on the Northern Line are now over, but minor delays persist on the District Line between Tower Hill and Upminster, eastbound.

Disruption affecting Liverpool Street and Stratford trains 'until further notice'

A signalling fault is now affecting trains running from Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport, Cambridge, and Hertford East, and well as some services running from Stratford.

National Rail says the disruption is expected “until further notice”.

The following alterations are in place:

• Services from London Liverpool Street to Hertford East will divert via Seven Sisters

• Services from London Liverpool Street to Cambridge will divert via Seven Sisters

• Services from London Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport are likely to be delayed

• Services from Stratford to Bishops Stortford are likely to be delayed

• Services from Stratford to Meridian Water are likely to be delayed

Good service restored on Overground

London Overground has been hit by delays all morning due to a signal failure, but these are now over.

There is now a good service running across the Overground, and all Underground lines.

Dozens of Greater Anglia trains impacted by signalling fault

The Greater Anglia website shows 23 timetabled trains, including services between Stansted Airport and Liverpool Street, are currently affected by disruptions caused by the ongoing signalling fault.

Some trains are delayed, while others have been diverted, or revised to remove scheduled stops.
