Local business could be behind chemical dumping in creek
Authorities in Melbourne believe a local business may be responsible for leaving a creek covered in white foam.
The Environment Protection Agency has taken samples of the substance from Dandenong Creek in Melbourne’s east.
The normally pristine five-kilometre section of the creek has been transformed and is currently producing white, cloudy foam. It is not known what the substance is.
EPA Victoria’s Damien Wells said while the foam isn’t being treated as a “hazmat, high toxicity for humans event”, the department has still taken samples.
Residents said the waterway is regularly polluted by spills from an industrial area upstream.

Many have been left distressed after seeing the foam on Sunday with residents claiming it’s environmental vandalism.
It’s believed one of many upstream businesses could be responsible for contaminating the creek.
