A man charged over a fake bomb threat in the Melbourne city centre allegedly made an improvised explosive device more than six weeks ago.

Charge sheets released to AAP allege Steven Mauldon, 33, "unlawfully and maliciously" made the bomb at a Geelong property on May 5.

Mauldon was taken into custody just after midday on Wednesday after parts of the busy precinct were placed into lockdown.

People were told to stay inside buildings as bomb squad officers searched Mauldon's car and allegedly found a gun and drugs.

Detectives and officers from the Bomb Response unit raided a North Shore home in Geelong on Wednesday afternoon, seizing items including suspected explosive devices.

A Sydney council has defended its decision to incorporate Pride-related activities at one of its daycare centres.

Children at Northmead Redbank Early Learning Centre in Parramatta, who are as young as six months, "celebrated" Australia's Australia’s diverse LGBTQIA+ community with rainbow flag painting and dress up among other activities, the Daily Telegraph reported.

One mother told the publication she believed there is "no place" for the "political movement" at a childcare centre and has since removed her child.

Parramatta Council has stressed the children have not been taught about LGBT issues.

“Council seeks to create an inclusive environment at its childcare centres where every child and parent feels welcome and supported. During Pride Month, the centre focuses on age-appropriate activities like painting and dance that celebrate being yourself, inclusion and friendship," a spokesperson told the Daily Telegraph.

Microplastics have been found in human penises for the first time, with scientists raising questions about their impact on sexual health.

A study, published in the science journal Nature, assessed the tissue from six men who had undergone surgery treating erectile dysfunction.

In 80% of the samples, seven types of microplastics were identified, with some as small as two micrometres - or two thousandths of a millimetre. Some were as large as half a millimetre,

"The detection of microplastics in penile tissue raises inquiries on the ramifications of environmental pollutants on sexual health," scientists said in the study which they described as "groundbreaking".

Almost half of the microplastics found were polyethylene terephthalate, commonly used to make clothes and food and drink packaging.

Polypropylene - a harder microplastic also used in packaging - formed 34.7% of the substances.

A pedestrian has died after allegedly being hit by a ute during a road rage incident.

Emergency services were called to Jersey Road at Blackett, in Sydney's west, on Thursday morning after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.

Police discovered a 27-year-old man, who was wearing high-visibility clothes, had been hit by a ute before it was driven away.

The man died at the scene while being treated by paramedics.

Investigators are looking for a white ute with a metal tray, a black canopy and a black toolbox with metal racks on top that was seen in the area.

Police have established a crime scene and are searching for the driver involved in the alleged road rage incident.

Forensic testing has begun on a number of bones found at a construction site in Sydney’s north.

NSW Police were called to a construction site on South Creek Rd, Cromer at about 10.45am on Wednesday after a “number of bones were excavated”.

A police statement said testing had yet to determine if the remains are human.

Officers remain at the site, and inquiries are continuing.

While the investigation is at its infancy, the site is about 1km away from Cromer High School, where convicted murder Chris Dawson worked as a sports teacher in 1979.

The now 75-year-old was found guilty of murdering his wife Lynette Sims, however her body has never been found following her disappearance in January 1982.

The stone circle was doused in orange paint just one day before thousands of visitors are expected to descend on the site to celebrate the longest day of the year.
