LEGO and Star Wars are unleashing The Empire's war fleet with a brand-new Imperial Star Destroyer.

First seen in 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope, the Imperial Star Destroyer was the ultimate weapon of mass destruction for The Empire before the completion of the Death Star.

The ship's superior power and speed were immortalised in A New Hope's opening chase scene with The Rebel Alliance's Tantive IV ship, which was hailed as a landmark in film special effects at the time.

LEGO has released a few versions of the Imperial Star Destroyer (including one that held a record for the longest-ever LEGO set at the time of its release).

This updated version is still impressive at 18 inches (46cm) long and 6 inches (16cm) high and comes with a carrying handle that can be used to simulate flight.

The interior of the Imperial Star Destroyer is fully detailed, including access to spring-loaded shooters that can take down LEGO's recent Tantive IV set.

Other interior fixtures include the ship's bridge, armory, and detailed control panels, as well as a cargo box with a thermal detonator element and a Kyber Crystal.

There are seven LEGO minifigures included here as well — Darth Vader, an Imperial Stormtrooper and Commander Nahdonnis Praji among them, along with Cal Kestis from the video games Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor.

There are lots of exciting new LEGO Star Wars sets out now or on the horizon, including the latest version of the Millennium Falcon.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary of working with Star Wars, LEGO is also releasing new sets including the Empire's TIE Interceptor ship and an incredibly detailed replica of the Mos Eisley Cantina.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are streaming on Disney+ and also available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K.
