Taylor Swift wows her biggest concert ever
Taylor Swift has wowed her first concert of her Australian Eras tour – and the Melbourne crowd may be the biggest she has ever performed before.
Swift hit the stage just after 7pm to start the show before about 96,000 fans, with the words: “My name is Taylor and I’ll be your host this evening.”
“Losing my mind at there being 96,000 people here. This is the biggest show that we’ve ever done. I’m fully starstruck by the fact so many people wanted to hang out with us on a Friday night in Melbourne!”
Thousands of Taylor Swift fans had lined up early on Friday afternoon ahead of Taylor Swift’s first Australian Eras Tour concert.
There were a few screams heard as the gates finally opened.
Dressed in sequins, feathers and cowboy boots, fans flooded into the stadium to pose for photos before dinsing their seats.
Many fans were seen adorned with dozens of friendship bracelets ready to trade as soon as they got into the stadium.
The music kicked off at 6.20pm with opening act Sabrina Capenter taking the stage before Taylor stepped out in her sequins.
Those who couldn’t get one of the most sought after tickets of the year, hung out outside the MCG hoping to hear a little of the concert of the year.
More than a thousand fans swarmed the merchandise tents outside the MCG about an hour before the gates opened.
Anticipation is high ahead of the first show, with many left wondering what the surprise songs will be.
Taylor performs two surprise acoustic songs at each concert, giving fans something different each night.
A small crowd has already gathered along the grassed areas near the stadium where ticketless fans are expected settle in to take in Swift’s performance.
Taylor will perform in Melbourne on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, followed by Sydney on February 23-26.
