Lab West schools delay opening due to snow — yes, we're serious
People in Labrador City and Wabush woke up Thursday to more snow than they likely would want for late May. (Submitted by Danielle Ballard )
As residents of Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula look forward to their first 20-degree day of the season, people in western Labrador woke up to a much different scene on Thursday.
Snow covered the ground in Labrador West, even causing a delayed opening for schools in Labrador City and Wabush.
Those schools were opening two hours late due to slippery road conditions in the region.
Light snow is expected to continue throughout the day, with another two centimetres in the forecast, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
The good news? Labrador West should see 20 degrees on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
