King Charles smiles and waves as he is greeted by cheers from the public on his return to royal duties amid ongoing cancer treatment.

Charles, joined by Queen Camilla, arrived at University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre in London to meet medical staff and patients on Tuesday (30 April).

The King’s visit aims to raise awareness of the importance of early cancer diagnosis and highlight some of the innovative research, supported by Cancer Research UK, taking place at the hospital.

The monarch has also been named as the new patron of Cancer Research UK.

The final report of the U.K.'s infected blood inquiry was published on Monday, nearly six years after it began looking into how tens of thousands of people contracted HIV or hepatitis from transfusions of tainted blood and blood products in the 1970s and 1980s. The scandal is widely seen as the deadliest to afflict Britain's state-run National Health Service since its inception in 1948, with around 3,000 people believed to have died as a result of being infected with HIV and hepatitis.
