'Why you should keep your cat inside': Snake swallows beloved pet

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT A snake catcher has issued a grim warning to pet owners after a python swallowed a family’s beloved cat.

Snake Catcher Luke shared a photo to his Facebook page on Wednesday of a python just after it ate an outdoor cat at a home in Noosa.

“This python would have come through, the cat got a bit too curious, they had a scuffle and the cat has been strangled,” Luke told Yahoo7 News.

“The python won this round.”

The snake catcher also shared a similar photo, taken about a year ago, of another pet cat that had been killed by a large python.

But in this instance, Luke said it was “hard to feel sorry” for the cat as he also found feathers, frog legs and a chewed bird corpse near the feline.

Luke said he only sees about 10 cats come off second best in a tussle with a snake, but cats kill about 650 million reptiles across the country annually.

“There are so many dangerous things out there – cars, dogs, other cats and the occasional wildlife that that fights back – why do people let them out?” he said.

“These cats would have killed about 50,000 reptiles in their lifetime.”

The snake catcher hopes the post will encourage cat owners to make sure their pets are kept inside.

“It’s our responsibility to protect our pets and also protect wildlife,” he said.
