JPC students set to represent State

John Paul College has continued with its tradition of producing outstanding athletes after two of its students picked up gold medals at last month’s WA All Schools Championships.

Olivia Black and Tania Loone competed at last month’s event at the WA Athletics Stadium in Perth, where they picked up two golds, three silvers and a bronze medal between them.

Both girls have been selected to represent WA at the Australian All Schools Championships in Townsville in December as a result of their good form.

They also both earned selection to represent the State at the 2014 Australian Junior Championships in Sydney.

Loone said it would be an honour to represent WA again after previously competing at the national junior championships in hurdles.

“I previously represented the State in hurdles, but this year I decided to focus my attention on long and triple jump,” the 16-year-old said. “It paid off because I get to go to the nationals again, which is such a great experience.”

The younger Black took out gold in the U14s 200m as well as silver in the 100m, 400m and long jump.

She qualified for the 200m final with the fifth fastest qualifying time of 28.06 before getting the win with a huge personal best of 26.71 seconds.

“My favourite event is the 200m so to get the gold in a personal best time was super pleasing,” Black said.
