Jetstar plans to resume flights after Bali volcano hazard
Jetstar has resumed flights to Bali on Friday after earlier cancellations due to Indonesia’s Mount Agung volcano spewing water vapour and ash into the atmosphere.
More than 20 flights across Jetstar, Qantas, Virgin and Air Asia were disrupted between Thursday night and Friday morning due to the ash cloud moving toward Denpasar Airport.
The only three flights on Friday morning to Bali from Melbourne were cancelled.
But at time of publication, Jetstar listed its Friday evening flights from Melbourne as “on-time” on its flight status page after Denpasar airport confirmed it had reopened.
“We are continuing to monitor conditions in Bali following volcanic eruptions at Mount Agung,” Jetstar said in a statement.
“At this stage, scheduled flights this afternoon and this evening are planned to operate subject to any change in conditions.”

Jetstar advised customers booked to fly to Bali on Friday night to travel to the airport as usual and check their flight status online.
“If there are any changes to our schedule, we will contact customers directly via SMS and email,” the carrier said.
“Customers who have already had their flight cancelled today [Friday] or yesterday [Thursday] will be contacted with alternative options.”
Jetstar said its flights scheduled for Saturday would also go ahead but they were subjected to any change in conditions.

“Volcanic activity is unpredictable, so please be aware that conditions can change rapidly. We will update you immediately if there is any change to our schedule,” the airline said on its website.
Qantas has listed its Friday evening flights as “delayed” on its own Flight Status tracker.
It shared Smarttraveller’s advice on Facebook to passengers, urging those scheduled to fly to Indonesia on Friday night to check with their airline or tour operator directly for up-to-date information on the latest schedules.
“Based on current advice, Bali airport will remain closed until 7pm local time, while weather conditions are reviewed,” Smarttraveller reported.
