Airplane Spits Flames Due to 'Mechanical Issues' Over Ohio

An American Airlines plane departing from Columbus, Ohio, was returned to the airport after the aircraft’s engine experienced mechanical issues on Sunday, April 23, according to authorities.

Video recorded by Wendy Gomez along State Route 315 shows flames spitting out of a plane overhead.

The plane, which was bound for Phoenix, was in the air for approximately 39 minutes before returning to John Glenn International Airport, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.

Local media reported the incident was being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration, adding that a spokesperson from the Columbus Regional Airport Authority said “the reported mechanical issues were caused by a bird strike on departure.” Credit: Wendy Gomez via Storyful
