Is this the new iPhone 8 look? Images reportedly from 'leaked blueprints’

Ten years ago, Steve Jobs stood on a stage and announced a new product which he promised would ‘change everything’.

This year’s iPhone 8 is expected to be a total reinvention for the gadget which has turned Apple into one of the world’s most powerful companies.

New images allegedly based on leaked computer-aided design (CAD) files used to manufacture prototypes have offered us the clearest hint yet of what the gadget might look like.

The new images show off a vertical dual-camera protrusion with a flash between the two lenses – which could be used for ‘advanced augmented reality’ features.

It also hints at a curved, edge-to-edge screen on the new device – something which is widely expected when the phone launches in September.

It’s not clear whether this render is based on the CAD files for the final gadget – or one of a range of prototypes.

Earlier this year, Nikkei Asian Review reported that Apple has ordered 70 million OLED screens from Samsung – an all-new screen technology with deeper blacks and brighter colours.

The screen is also expected to be curved at the edges, like on Samsung’s flagship S8 handset, according to previous analyst reports.

"Apple has ordered 70 million units of OLED panels from Samsung this year, while Samsung is preparing to churn out as many as 95 million for Apple in 2017, in case demand exceeds expectations," David Hsieh of HSI Markit.

However, the frenzied speculation may have come a little too soon, with some later claiming the images were in fact Photoshopped pictures of a different phone.

Time will tell.
