'Insane' moment snake grabs pet cat in Aussie woman's backyard caught on camera

The snake catcher called to the Sunshine Coast home said it was 'one of the most insane videos' he'd ever seen.

The unsettling moment an Australian woman tried to save her cat from the clutches of a large snake in her backyard has been captured on home camera.

In the dramatic footage, the small cat can be seen relaxing in the garden of the Queensland home when a large python slithers up right behind it. While the pet is unaware, the startled mum shrieks as she tentatively tries to lurch towards the cat to save it. The movement startles the animal, causing it to dash away as the snake latches onto it.

As both animals head towards the house, the piercing screams of both the woman and her daughter inside the house can be heard.

"Oh s**t ... Oh my god," the mum screams as she chases her cat inside the home.

Local Sunshine Coast snack catcher Stuart McKenzie later shared the vision to his business' social media page, warning viewers; "What you're about to watch is one of the most insane videos you'll ever see".

"It will send shivers down your spine," he claimed.

"The cat's taken off inside and brought the snake with it, one of the most insane videos I've ever seen," McKenzie said.

The woman and her daughter were ultimately able to remove the non venomous python from the cat and called in the snake catcher to relocate it.

"Honestly, the mum and daughter were so brave and did a fantastic job," McKenzie said. "Obviously it's a tough situation if a pet is ever grabbed by a carpet python but they did the right thing – they were able to safely get the snake off the cat, essentially get the coils off the cat."

In 24 hours, the clip has been viewed more than 300,000 times across Facebook and TikTok.

"Brings a whole new meaning to 'look what the cat's dragged in'," people joked in the comments.
