Inmate charged with murdering fellow prisoner

An inmate has been charged with the murder of a fellow prisoner after a body was found inside a correctional facility in Sydney’s northwest.

Police were called to Parklea Correctional facility shortly before 9.30am on Sunday following reports an inmate had been found unresponsive in a cell.

NSW Police said the man was treated by correctional officers until paramedics arrived at the scene but was later declared dead.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

About 2.30pm, a 20-year-old male inmate was arrested and charged with murder.

He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court on Monday.
