Instagram influencer reveals disturbing virus detail in romantic holiday post

An Instagram influencer has sparked outrage after showing crowds of people failing to social distance while posing with her husband on a romantic getaway.

Katie Giorgadze, who has more than 700,000 followers, shared a video of herself embracing her husband at Oia on the Greek island of Santorini at sunset.

“We went to watch the famous Santorini sunset… This is the behind the scene that most of the influencers didn’t show you,” the 27-year-old wrote in the caption.

As the woman has her arms around her husband the video cuts to crowds of people standing around to watch the sunset. None appear to be wearing masks.

Viewers were shocked by the crowds.

“Coronavirus doesn’t exist anymore I see,” one woman wrote.

Another woman said the video gave her “so much anxiety” while another woman, claiming to be a Greek resident, called it “frightening”.

Greece has had more than 8,900 cases of COVID-19, according to Johns Hopkins University data. It’s led to 243 deaths.

It’s not clear if Giorgadze’s intention was to show people not social distancing or to give an example that not all intimate social media posts are exactly that – given the crowds of people normally in public tourist spaces.

But either way, she claims a local told her the area was “much less crowded than in previous years”.

“It also got pretty empty after the sun sets in the sea,” she wrote.
