'Incredible' teacher dies from Covid on her 25th birthday

A family is in mourning after a newly-qualified teacher lost her battle with Covid-19 on her 25th birthday.

Claudia Marsh died at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in the UK after being diagnosed earlier this month.

Tributes have since poured in for the “beautiful” and “incredible” daughter and sister who worked with numerous charities.

In a Just Giving page created by her mum Tina Marsh, Claudia’s family asked people to make donations to two charities close to her heart instead of sending flowers.

“When Claudia was diagnosed with an eating disorder, Talking Eating Disorders (TEDS) was a huge help, not only for her but also for the family,” Tina wrote.

“It gave us hope and much needed support, and as Claudia recovered, she then became a support to other sufferers and their families.”

During the UK’s strict Covid lockdown last year, Claudia “wanted to do something worthwhile with her spare time” and began volunteering for The Whitechapel Centre Charity, which helps the homeless in Liverpool.

“She found the Whitechapel Centre, and very quickly became involved with sorting and packing food and sleeping parcels,” Tina said.

“Claudia became the ‘poster girl’ for the charity, appearing on their website and Instagram pages when donations had been made.

“She loved being able to make a difference to people less fortunate than herself,” she wrote on the Just Giving page, which has so far raised A$27,357 for the two charities.

Leigh Best, founder of TEDS and a Marsh family friend, said losing Claudia was “heartbreaking”, according to BBC.

“She supported countless families across the UK. Claudia made her own little packs to give out to others with eating disorders with positive affirmations.

“She was full of positivity, kindness and hope, and had a smile that would brighten up the whole room.”

The Whitechapel Centre sad in a statement that staff were “devastated” by the 25-year-old’s death.

“Everyone one who met her couldn’t help but be affectedly her warmth, her energy, and her sense of fun,” the centre said on Facebook

"Claudia always put others before herself and her memory will live on through the impact and contribution she made to our organisation.

“Gone far too soon.”

It is unclear if Ms Marsh suffered from any preconditions that hindered her battle with Covid-19.
