Incredible footage shows police pull baby out from under car

Police have rescued a mum and baby pinned under a car in New York after an allegedly intoxicated driver crashed through a barbershop storefront.

Security footage released by the Yonkers Police Department captured the horrifying moment the driver lost control and rammed into a parked car before colliding into the woman carrying her child and driving through the shop window.

Two police officers, who were at the bagel shop next door, rushed to the chaotic scene where they found people attempting to help the mother and her baby who were trapped under the vehicle.

Heart-stopping body-cam video shows officers Paul Samoyedny and Rocco Fusco, with the help of bystanders, lift the car up to free the infant and her mother.

“We have a baby under the vehicle!” ” Somebody’s got to pull them out!” “Grab the baby!” “C’mon. C’mon!” they can be heard yelling.

“I got the baby,” one of them says, pulling the little girl up from under the 2005 Hyundai Elantra.

The eight-month-old suffered a fractured skull and third-degree burns to her back and foot. Her mum, 36, has a compound leg fracture.

Police said they are still recovering in hospital but are “doing extremely well”.

Officers find alcohol in driver's car

Police found an alcoholic beverage in the car driven by Yonkers resident David Poncurak, 43.

There was also a woman in the car with him, who was uninjured.

Poncurak was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and vehicular assault. Authorities said he did not have a licence.

“It is always a tragedy when someone is injured by the reckless and criminal acts of another person and that is only amplified when those injured include an infant,” Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller said in a statement hailing the team effort.

“Luckily, two veteran officers of Yonkers’ finest just happened to be getting breakfast next door and quickly took action along with members of the community to rescue a child trapped under the vehicle and render aid to her mother. The actions taken are nothing short of heroic.”
