IGA manager confronts teen gang

Police are investigating after an East Victoria Park supermarket manager allegedly tried to defend himself from a gang of teenagers who had allegedly been shoplifting from his store last night.

Police were called around 8.10pm after reports that a number of people were involved in an altercation at the Albany Highway supermarket.

IGA worker Nguyen Le said he was attacked as he asked the group of up to 15 people to leave the store.

Mr Le said he confronted a person and accused him of stealing.

"I asked him to go outside," he said.

Other people from the group allegedly followed the boy outside then tried to get back into the store, where Mr Le and manager Tung Tran confronted them.

"We asked them to leave and they kept coming back," Mr Le said.

"I had about three of four of them around me and they wanted to start a fight."

Mr Le claimed his manager was attacked.

Mr Le was allegedly headbutted in the mouth.

"I hurt my lip. This morning I could not open my mouth properly," he said.

"I felt scared because there were 10 of them and two of us."

A female behind the counter used pepper spray, as customers inside watched on.

Both Mr Le and his manager received minor injuries.

Police and Ambulance officers arrived shortly afterwards.

A teenage boy was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with minor injuries while others were treated at the scene.
