Sixty people have been assessed and another 11 have been rushed to hospitals after a horror crash between a bus and semi-trailer on a busy Queensland highway.

Major delays have rocked the M1 after the collision, with police confirming two of the four southbound lanes were closed due to the severity of the smash.

A Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokeswoman said the collision occurred on the M1 near Stapylton, just before the Jacobs Well Rd exit, about 9.40am on Wednesday.

Sixty people were assessed at the scene by paramedics.

The spokeswoman said eight people were taken to Logan Hospital, all in stable conditions.

Two teenagers were taken to separate hospitals in the Gold Coast and Brisbane in serious but stable conditions.

Another was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
