A man has been charged after a body was found in the middle of a southwestern Sydney road following an alleged hit-and-run.

Emergency services made the discovery on the intersection of Pritchard St and Hemphill Ave in Mount Pritchard shortly after 3am on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old man from Auburn had suffered serious injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

The Crash Investigation Unit began an investigation, which led officers to raid a nearby home where a 55-year-old man was arrested about 9.30am.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving (occasioning death), failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Fairfield Local Court on Thursday.

His licence has also been suspended.

It is understood the two men were not known to each other.

While executing the search warrant, police also allegedly seized almost $950,000 in cash and a Lexus sedan, which will be forensically examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
