Horrifying moment toddler's fingers get stuck in shopping centre escalator

A young girl has had a miraculous escape after getting her hand caught in the steps of an escalator.

Horrifying footage uploaded to Facebook last week shows a screaming toddler surrounded by security guards and concerned onlookers at a shopping centre in Manila, the Philippines, on November 11.

Facebook user Antonio Romero, who uploaded the clip, said the girl managed to trap her fingers in between the steps and the lower landing after falling over while holding her mother’s hand.

Staff from the mall managed to halt the escalator within moments of the girl becoming trapped and tried to free the girl who was screaming traumatically, local news outlet GMA News reported.

In the video, the girl’s fingers can be seen bloodied as she struggles to pull her hand free. She is eventually released after about two minutes and rushed off by a security guard.

The girl was taken to hospital but remarkably only suffered minor injuries to her fingers, GMA News reported.

She has since been released from hospital with skin damage to several fingers.

Many comments on social media urged parents to stay vigilant to the dangers of escalators when with their children on moving staircases.

The incident comes after dozens of soccer fans were injured when an escalator collapsed in Rome last month.
