Puppy left in coma after being tied to tow bar and dragged behind car

WARNING – DISTRESSING CONTENT: A puppy has suffered sickening injuries after it was dragged behind a car – only saved thanks to the quick-thinking actions of a heroic Brisbane man.

The good Samaritan, identified only as Jeremy, saw a driver pull out from a dirt track, dragging little Remi down the road from the tow bar on February 10.

He flagged down the driver and rushed to the aid of the horrifically wounded puppy. It is not known whether the incident was accidental or intentional.

In addition to severe burns, bruises, lacerations and bone damage, Remi suffered a suspected broken jaw and had one of her paw pads completely ripped off.

“The vet didn’t give Remi much chance of living through the first night,” Happy Tails Animal Rescue Inc wrote on a GoFundMe page.

She was in such extreme pain that she needed to be sedated and placed into an induced coma, giving her the best chance of survival.

The target goal of $3000 was more than doubled in the first 24 hours, with the rescue clinic saying there are still a lot of unknowns with Remi’s recovery and rehabilitation requirements.

“What we do know is she will spend months in recovery in foster care and there are many more costs to come,” they added.

“Her wounds will be bandaged and remain bandaged for several months to allow healing and prevent infection control.

“The bandages will need to be changed by her carer every few days. The specialists in Brisbane will determine if she needs skin grafts also.”

Dog ‘left for dead by owner’ after being dragged behind ute

The distressing incident comes just weeks after a Shar Pei X had to be put down after a near-identical scene in Central Queensland.

Diners sitting outside the Pine Beach Hotel near Yeppoon were left screaming after they saw the dog struggling to keep up with the ute that he was attached to.

When it’s lead eventually snapped off, the owner fled and the dog was rushed to a nearby vet.

Graphic images show the dog’s wounded paws that left a series of blood tracks across the floor.

Despite his determination to walk into the vet, his injuries were too severe and later that the local vet confirmed that they were unable to save him.
