Homeowner's shock discovering someone had 'tried to steal his lawn'

A shocked homeowner has aired his surprise, after someone sliced up his artificial lawn into sections and made an apparent attempt to steal it.

The father named Rhett, from the Perth suburb of Munster, posted a number of images on a Facebook community page on Saturday, which show one section of the synthetic grass ripped right off the ground.

“They’ve actually come and cut it with a stanley knife and cut it into sections,” Rhett told Yahoo7.

“Just ripped up all the pins and now it’s obviously uneven and cut through the middle.”

The Perth father initially thought it may have been an act of vandalism.

But upon closer inspection he said it appeared to be cut it into thirds, with two lines down the middle and the first section peeled back.

“Either they got disturbed or it got too heavy.” he believes.

The turf was laid about a year and a half ago, and Rhett said it cost over $6,000 to have it installed.

“It all has to be redone now because it’s shot,” the father explained, adding it was “not the best start to the morning.”

“It was perfectly laid – so it looks all saggy now.”

His wife made the discovery at about 6am on Saturday when she got up with their newborn baby.

“Normally she wakes up every few hours – but she’s only just started to sleep through,” he said, adding his wife had been changing their baby this morning and opened the window to see the damage to their front yard.

The Perth father believed the attempt occurred somewhere between midnight and 6am on Saturday.

He added that the area is well lit and it is quite a quiet suburb, explaining if any cars were on the street after midnight it would likely attract attention.
