’It’s not us’: Family’s fears as home shot up
Police have revealed their theory behind the shocking shooting of a Sydney home that sent a young family running for cover.
The parents of two young children said Saturday night’s attack was not the first shooting at their rented home in Virginia St, Blacktown, with the home allegedly fired at a couple of weeks earlier.
The mother of the family, Hardeep Kaur, pleaded with the shootings to stop.
“It’s hard, please, it’s not us. We’re not doing anything,” Ms Kaur told Nine News.
The family, including a cousin, was watching TV when a bullet shattered a window and landed in their living room. No one was injured.
MS Kaur told Nine News they instructed their children to drop to the ground and take cover.
“We’re just innocent people with two young children,” the mother said.
“We can’t hide behind the doors, we can’t hide our children.”
They are now trying to find a new home.
“We don’t want to move but we have to,” she said.
Detective Inspector Kylie Evans said police believed the residence was being targeted because of “former occupants”.
“Police believe this family is innocent and we believe this is a case of mistaken identity,” she said.
“This family are not known to us and they are an innocent family.
“Police believe the actual residence has been targeted through former occupants.”
Insp Evans confirmed police were probing a previous shooting at the home on April 13.
The family were again at property when the shooting took place shortly before 6pm.
Emergency services were initially called to Virginia St in Blacktown shortly after 9pm on Saturday after reports of a shooting.
Police allege several shots were fired into the home while the family was inside.
A Ford Ranger matching descriptions provided to police was later seized on Seppelt St in nearby Eastern Creek for forensic examination.
Police believe the vehicle had been abandoned and were investigating whether it was linked to the shooting.
A crime scene was established by detectives at both locations with an investigation underway.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact Blacktown Police or Crime Stoppers.
