Hitler's birthplace gets makeover as police station

STORY: Adolf Hitler's birthplace is being turned into a police station

Location: Braunau, Austria

The project is meant to prevent the house from becoming a pilgrimage site for neo-Nazis

Hitler’s family lived here for three years around his birth on April 20, 1889

The Austrian government seized the building in 2016

and after years of debate decided to turn it into a police station with a human rights training center

But there has been criticism of the plan

(Erich Marschall, Opponent to the project)

"The entire discussion about this use has been going on for four to five years, but never with the involvement of the people of Braunau. It has only ever been in Vienna, in the ministries, and not a single event, not an information evening on this topic in Braunau, so the people of Braunau have not been invited."
