Hilton hotel in Paddington evacuated and road closed before laundry fire brought under control

A fire that broke out in a west London hotel is “now under control” after dozens of firefighters were called to the scene.

They were called out after a blaze broke out in the laundry room at the Hilton hotel in Paddington at 1.20pm.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) announced shortly before 4pm the fire was under control but a spokesman said traffic was “likely to remain impacted”.

Praed Street was initially closed to traffic between Spring Street and London Street, and the fire brigade had urged people to avoid the area.

LFB said the laundry room was on the fourth floor of the six-floor building.

Firefighters from Paddington, Euston, North Kensington and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

A spokesman for the service said they had used a 32-metre ladder as an “observation tower” at the fire and “also placed smoke blockers in the building to limit the spread of smoke”.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is being looked at by the Brigade's Fire Investigation team.

Paramedics were also at the scene on Thursday afternoon, but it was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured.

The ambulance service has been approached for more information.
