An “intelligent” director of an event company has been charged with corruptly bribing an agent for her own benefit after an investigation into her lucrative business practices.

Helen Mary Rosamond appeared in the NSW District Court via audiovisual link on Friday after pleading not guilty to corruptly giving an agent a benefit valued at between $2000 and $5000.

She swapped designer outfits for a green prison tracksuit as she represented herself in court from prison after being jailed earlier this year on separate fraud charges.

The former director of event management company Human Group told the court she was having difficulty obtaining legal representation after her bid for a state-funded lawyer was rejected.

She said she now hoped to engage a barrister who would work for free, but she had not been able to secure an arrangement prior to Friday’s hearing.

Judge Robert Sutherland said the delay was “regrettable” but the court had to “face realities” about the limited amount of time left until courts close for the year.

He adjourned the matter until next year “to see what can be done” about securing legal advice or representation for the convicted fraudster.

“Ms Rosamond, you are an intelligent person,” the judge told her.

“You should understand that I will proceed to deal with this, with or without legal representation, in February.”

Rosamond was charged with the offence in 2019.
