Hero siblings' frantic phone call to save dad's life

Two New South Wales children have saved their father’s life after he collapsed on the kitchen floor in the middle of cooking dinner.

Lake Macquarie siblings Emma Taylor, 11, and Josh, 9, were the only ones home when their father Colin fell to the floor and had a seizure.

The quick-thinking children immediately called triple-0.

In harrowing audio, Emma can be heard telling the operator her father has fallen to the ground after beginning to shake.

“My dad just started like shaking and stuff and then he fell on to the ground,” she says.

“I’m just really scared.”

Josh stays by his father while his big sister receives instructions.

“Dad stay down, stay down,” she yells back to him.

“Stay down!” Josh also yells.

“He’s not listening,” Emma tells the operator.

“Dad, lay on your back. Dad, lay on your back. Dad!”

The brother and sister stayed on the line and after being told what to do, managed to save their father’s life.

When paramedics arrived they quickly worked out Emma and Josh had done everything right – exactly what the triple-0 operator had asked.

It could have turned out much worse, with SA Ambulance paramedic Doug Stewart saying seizures were unpredictable and “always a concern.”

Colin Taylor said while no parent ever wants their kids to have to ring the ambulance for them, it was “great to know” his children are “so switched on”.
