Heartbroken man holds wedding to marry dead fiancée

A heartbroken man has married the corpse of his fiancée after she died from breast cancer.

Yang Liu, 34, from China, died on October 14 from breast cancer after being diagnosed five and a half years ago, Dalian Evening News reports.

Ms Liu and her fiancé, Xu Shinan, 35, became engaged in 2013 after meeting at university.

They had put their wedding on hold due to Ms Liu’s ongoing health problems. They were also saving money for a home.

Mr Shinan stayed by her body for seven days after her death. He also discovered an online shopping cart with wedding dresses Ms Liu had been looking at.

He decided one day after her death to buy her a gown as he had promised.

On Sunday, Mr Shinan donned a suit and married Ms Liu at a ceremony in Dalian in China’s east.

The 35-year-old was in tears as he read his wedding vows.

"For the rest of my life [I] will be in pain, but I won't give up,” he told Ms Liu.
