Harris launches community number to text with Americans
Vice President Harris has launched a community number, which will allow Americans to text her and receive information about her work, her office announced Friday.
The community number is the first time in history that all Americans can text a vice president, according to her office.
“As Vice President, I’ve traveled our nation and met so many of you. I’m inspired by your stories, work, dreams, and aspirations — and I want to keep our conversations going. Starting today, you can text me at 310-861-2977. I can’t wait to hear from you,” Harris shared in a video on X, formerly Twitter.
Harris’s office tested out the platform while in Savannah, Ga., for her “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour this week. The vice president has been the most vocal leader out of the White House to push for abortion rights in the wake of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.
The number launch aligns with an uptick in public appearances from Harris as the Biden-Harris reelection campaign focuses on the general election and taking on former President Trump, the likely GOP nominee.
Aside from Georgia, the vice president has also recently traveled to Charlotte, N.C., and Orangeburg, S.C.
In the first six weeks of 2024, she made 15 trips to nine states and conducted more than 16 media interviews, according to her office. Her office said the number launch builds on her continued efforts to meet Americans where they are on important issues.
