'No excuse': Motorist fined $1200 for travelling at 'alarmingly' high speed

A Queensland motorist has been suspended from the roads after he was clocked travelling 94km/h over the speed limit by a passing motorbike cop.

Alarming footage shared by Queensland Police shows a white Volkswagen Golf travelling at 184km/hr in a 90km/hr zone along the Bruce Highway last Tuesday.

The officer quickly performs a U-turn before pulling the vehicle over on Bells Bridge.

Police say a 23-year-old man from Gympie suburb Southside offered no excuse as to why he was travelling at such speed.

He was fined $1218 for driving more than 40km over the speed limit, losing eight demerit points in the process and earning a six-month suspension.

Superintendent David Johnson of Road Policing Command said the incident shocked the force.

“We are very concerned and alarmed at the driver’s speed, unnecessarily placing lives at risk on the roads,” he said.

Earlier this week, a speeding P-plater in Canberra had his licence suspended for exceeding the speed limit by over 70km/h – although some road users thought his punishment was too lenient.
