Four men have been taken to hospital after allegedly being brutally attacked by a group of men in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services were called to Carpenter Street, Colyton, at 11.15pm on Saturday where they found a man who had suffered serious head injuries.

The 20-year-old was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The man’s three friends, who were also assaulted, are also recovering in hospital.

It is believed knives and baseball bats were used in the alleged attack.

Police allege the group of four were confronted by another group of males while walking along Carpenter street.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, Detective Inspector Steve Peroni said the level of violence used was “extreme”.

“The injury suffered to the primary victim who remains at Westmead Hospital is in one of the worst categories of assault that I’ve seen in a long time,” Detective Inspector Peroni said.

“The nature of the head injuries and the injuries received by the other persons indicate the use of either edge weapons or blunt force weapons, possibly both.”

With a large amount of resources deployed to target the investigation, Detective Inspector Peroni said he was hopeful the perpetrators would soon be revealed.

“Detectives, with the information they have, have developed multiple lines of inquiry, and those lines of inquiry will hopefully lead to the identification of the suspects involved,” he said, adding that one property located on Carpenter street was of interest to police.

Detective Inspector Peroni urged those with any information regarding the incident, particularly those with dashcam footage, to speak with authorities.

“Please if you have any information contact Nepean Police Area Command or Crimestoppers,” he said.

While Detective Inspector Peroni could not rule out whether the assault was a random attack, he assured Colyton residents that there was no further danger as far as NSW Police were aware.
