Hero 'Bob the dog' rescues owner from drowning on Gold Coast
Bob the dog not only likes to wear hats and smoke the occasional pipe, he is also an unlikely hero after recently saving his owner from certain drowning in the family’s pool.
Bob was enjoying relaxing in the sun when chaos struck on Thursday morning.
His owner Barry was inside doing the laundry when wife Marilyn, who has Alzheimers, wandered outside near the pool area.
“Bob the dog came in barking and staring at me and he was whimpering and I knew there was something wrong,” grateful owner Barry told 7 News.
Bob the dog then lead Barry to the pool, where the pair had discovered that Marilyn had fallen in.
She was fully clothed and she was floundering,
Barry immediatedly jumped in and pulled his wife of 37 years from the water.
Although shaken by the scary experience, Marilyn was unharmed.
“We would have been another three minutes in the laundry. It probably would have been fatal,” Barry told 7 News about the terrifying incident.
Bob, who joined the family from the local pound 15 years ago had now earned a treat or two.
“He certainly did, he was treated like a king, he saved my wife’s life,” a relieved Barry told 7 News.
“It’s fantastic you know. It really bonds us as a family. I wish Marilyn had more [understanding of the] reality of it, but she knows it’s something good.”
