Girlfriend divides opinion over airport check-in act with $300 suitcase

The traveller was flying with her boyfriend when they were made to improvise.

A woman's desperate attempt to protect her pricey carry-on suitcase has divided opinion online after she shared her "improvised" travel hack on TikTok.

Jen, from the US, was forced to check in her $300 Beis luggage by airline staff but didn't want it to be ruined, so she came up with a "clever" trick.

In the video, the traveller's bag was seen being handled by airport staff with a black T-shirt covering its surface. The clip follows another which has since been deleted.

In it she claimed she made her boyfriend take off his clothing so she could place it over her bag, it's been reported. "When your boyfriend gets voluntold to take off this shirt to protect your new carry-on. You decide your boyfriend can buy a new shirt," screenshots of the video show.

In the follow-up video, the worker is seen placing a red 'fragile' sticker on the side.

"It was my idea to put the T-shirt on my carry-on, but it was my boyfriend's idea to tell them it was fragile," Jen wrote in the comments of the clip.

Travel method divides opinion

Beis is a luxury travel brand founded by Canadian actor Shay Michell and Jen’s bag is retailed at US$218 — roughly $320. Her method to protect it divided many who shared what they thought in the comments.

"This is what happens [when] people buy things they can't afford," one person said on Jen's follow up video. The initial footage attracted the most backlash though it seems.

"Why buy a bag that you're afraid to send through the airport?" one person hit out, according to 7 News. "Y'all act like suitcases aren't meant to be used and abused...suitcase covers are the dumbest thing ever," said another.

Others suggested luggage is supposed to get marked.

Some, however, appeared to love the idea. "Omg I don't know how I didn't think of that," one said. "Oh my god I should've done that, I panicked the whole time," another reportedly said.
