Georgia star Nakobe Dean celebrates national championship ... with Alabama hat

It is well-known that every major American championship game carries with it a promise of boxes of clothing that will never see the light of day, at least on this continent.

As the winners don their pre-printed hats and T-shirts, the losers head to the locker room and their apparel celebrating a non-existent championship remains packed up and destined for some overseas country. Unless there's a mistake.

Monday's College Football Playoff championship game saw one such error. In the minutes following Georgia's long-awaited national title, Bulldogs star linebacker Nakobe Dean was seen wearing a hat celebrating Alabama's title:

It's unclear who made the error. An equipment manager could have handed Dean the wrong hat or Dean could have reached into the wrong box, but the end result is a funny visual.

Fortunately, Dean soon realized his error and was seen wearing the right hat, a Georgia hat, during Georgia's trophy presentation.

The hat mishap is a footnote on a big season for Dean, who finished the season with 72 tackles, 25 QB hits, 10.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, five passes defended, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a touchdown. That effort earned him unanimous first-team All American honors and the Butkus Award for college football's top linebacker.

And now, he's a national champion.
