The price of gas in Newfoundland and Labrador has dipped by more than three cents for the second week in a row, continuing a downward trend this spring.

Thursday's weekly pricing adjustment from the Public Utilities Board lowered the maximum price of gasoline by 3.6 cents per litre.

With four drops over the last five weeks, gas is now about 16 cents cheaper than it was in early May.

The latest change means a litre of self-serve regular gas will cost a maximum of $1.759 on the Avalon Peninsula, where prices are cheapest. Retailers often charge less, especially in metro St. John's, to compete for customers.

Prices vary depending on location across the rest of the province, ranging between maximums of $1.75 and $1.93 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.77 and $2.15 per litre in Labrador.

Diesel decreased by three cents per litre across much of the province — and by 4.9 cents per litre in Labrador West and Churchill Falls — putting prices for the fuel between $1.76 and $1.88 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.92 and $2.59 per litre in Labrador.

The price of furnace oil decreased by 2.54 cents per litre, meaning customers in Newfoundland will pay between $1.11 and $1.29 per litre, depending on their location.

Stove oil lowered by the same price, but lowered by 4.78 cents per litre in Labrador West and Churchill Falls. The change puts maximum prices between $1.16 and $1.35 per litre in Newfoundland and between $1.29 and $1.95 per litre in Labrador.

Propane was the lone fuel to increase in price, up 0.8 cents per litre. The change puts prices between 94 cents and $1.08 per litre in Newfoundland and between 81 cents and $1.25 per litre in Labrador.
