Four Jetstar crew members have been taken to hospital after reporting an “unusual smell” on a flight from Gold Coast to Cairns.

Queensland Ambulance Service Cairns senior operations supervisor Joanne Selby confirmed paramedics attended Cairns Airport on Thursday after receiving a call just after 9.30am with reports of “several people being overcome by fumes on a domestic flight that had just landed.”.

They treated four women, one in her 20s, two in their 40s and one in her 50s.

“Four patients, who were all crew members, were then transferred to Cairns Hospital for further care.”

Ms Selby said the women had been given oxygen at the scene and confirmed they were all in a stable condition as they were transported to hospital.

She said the women said “they felt burning to their eyes and throat and headaches and light-headedness” as well as a “funny taste in their mouth” at the time.

“No passengers reported any symptoms of the fumes.”

Jetstar confirmed four members of its cabin crew reported an “unusual smell” and started to feel unwell after the flight.

“The four crew members were assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital for observation.

“There were no passenger reports of the smell and the aircraft landed normally in Cairns.

“The aircraft will be thoroughly checked by our engineers.”
