Two men have been critically injured in a car crash following a police chase through Melbourne's northern suburbs.
Police say they followed a black BMW sedan which was seen speeding through Northcote on Monday morning.
As they followed the car, a motorcycle was ridden between the two cars, preventing police from stopping the BMW.
Police say they called a pursuit when the BMW ran a red light.
After a short chase, the BMW collided with a silver sedan after running through a second red light around 11.30am (AEDT).
The driver of the silver car was critically injured and taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
One of the men in the BMW left the scene on the back of the motorbike, before jumping off and fleeing through parkland. He is yet to be detained.
All four other men in the car required medical attention, with one critically injured, and were taken to hospital.
Police say a handgun was found in the BMW.
The police car was not involved in the crash, which will be investigated by the Major Collision Investigation Unit and Professional Standards Command.
