Five people charged after female police officer choked

Five people have been charged with serious assault after three police patrol officers were brutally attacked, with one female cop choked on a suburban Brisbane street.

Two officers spoke to the group at Osborne Road at Mitchelton, in Brisbane’s north, shortly before midnight after they had been asked to leave a nearby pub, the Brook Hotel.

Police say the group became hostile and attacked a 35-year-old female senior constable who was choked until she almost lost consciousness.

The group also assaulted a 36-year-old male colleague as well as a 25-year-old female constable who arrived as part of a back-up patrol.

All three officers were taken to St Andrews Hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries.

Three men and two women, aged between 23 and 31, have each been charged with two counts of serious assault.

They will face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
