Fishermen save woman from dingo attack on Queensland island
Two fishermen have rescued a woman who was set upon by dingoes on an island off the Queensland coast.
One of the men, Gaven Martin said he noticed the woman was trying to escape into the surf off Fraser Island on Friday morning.
“She was walking and the dingoes were rounding her up, one at the front and one at the back,” Mr Martin said.
“The dingoes were not letting up.
“They were having a good go at her.”
The woman had been out for a walk near Kingfisher Resort when she became trapped.
The fishermen tried to scare the animals with their outboard motor as they came close to shore.
The men pulled the bleeding woman from the water, unaware she had already been bitten.
“We didn’t quite know at the time but they had already bitten her on the leg,” Mr Martin said.
The woman was treated by resort staff before being taken to Hervey Bay Hospital.
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service confirmed the attack in a statement on Friday afternoon and said it was investigating.
Last year, there were 20 high-risk interactions between humans and dingoes at Fraser Island last year.
It remains unclear what injuries the woman sustained in Friday’s attack.
