Fertility doctor accused of using his sperm 'around 50 times' for patients

A fertility doctor in the US has been accused of using his own sperm to impregnate at least nine women who came to him seeking assistance.

Dr Donald Cline faces up to five years' jail if convicted of obstruction of justice after children from different women decided to use genetic testing sites to find their biological fathers.

DNA testing initially brought two sisters together, who found the link to Dr Cline's fertility clinic.

They then went on to find a further seven siblings with the same biological makeup, but became suspicious given the same sperm donor is only supposed to be used in three successful pregnanies.

The sisters arranged a face-to-face meeting with Dr Cline where he allegedly told the duo "he didn't always have access to fresh sperm at his clinic".

The women who attended Dr Cline's clinic were told they would be inseminated with "fresh sperm" from a medical student or resident.

Dr Cline is alleged to have told the sisters he was pressured into using his own sperm "about 50 times" and thought he was helping his patients who wanted a baby.

He later retired from his practice in 2009.

While DNA testing allegedly confirmed Dr Cline is the biological father of the sisters, he has pleaded not guilty to the two charges in court.

He'll appear in court next month.
