Cousin's desperate search for missing backpacker last seen in Byron Bay

The search is on for a Belgian backpacker missing from Byron Bay for nearly a week.

Theo Hayez, 18, was last seen leaving a nightclub in Byron Bay on Friday last week about 11pm.

“At the time he was wearing a greenish coloured hat with what appears to be a Puma logo on the front, a black hooded jumper with an unknown motif on the front, beige pants and black shoes,” Tweed-Byron Police District wrote on Facebook.

His cousin Lisa Hayez wrote on Facebook on Thursday appealing for help to find him.

She added he’s travelling alone and could be between Byron Bay and Melbourne.

“He’s supposed to return to Belgium in a few days,” Ms Hayez wrote.

Mr Hayez was meant to check out of his backpackers on Monday to catch a bus to Melbourne but never showed, ABC reported.

Family friend Michael Dorkhom told the ABC Mr Hayez is careful and precise in his planning and wouldn’t abruptly change his schedule without informing somebody.

The 18-year-old is described as being male, Caucasian, approximately 180cm tall, thin build, blue eyes, blonde hair. He may have a short beard and moustache.”

Anyone who sees Mr Hayez is asked to contact Byron Bay Police on 02 6685 9499 to confirm he is safe and well.
