Father's heartbreak after diamonds and gold stolen in bizarre robbery

More than $100,000 worth of diamonds and gold have been stolen from a jewellery store in Melbourne.

It’s the second time the Malvern East store has been targeted by thieves and the young father who owns the business could now be forced to close it forever.

The latest robbery was a brazen and bizarre early-morning effort.

Wearing pyjamas and fluffy slippers, a woman and her male co-accused used force to break through a metal security gate.

The man then used a hammer to smash through the glass doors and burst into the Burke Road store.

Inside, he ransacked each cabinet, stealing more than $100,000 of jewellery.

In May last year, a gang of four masked men smashed into the shop during a terrifying daylight break-in.

Armed with crowbars, they attacked the display cases.

“Since the last robbery it’s affected me badly,” owner Mohammed Jafari said.

“You wake up to see the shop destroyed … it’s bad.”

After 25 years as a jeweller, Mr Jafari admits the second attack has taken a serious toll on his health and he is now considering shutting down the store and moving to a safer suburb.

“I’m not really in good health,” he said.
