Family’s ‘spooky’ find on wall of rural Airbnb: 'Uncanny'

A family's "spooky" find while taking an overnight rest break at a tucked away Airbnb has creeped out the internet, with the eerie find going viral this week.

Mum Jennie Stevenson said the family-of-five were driving home in Sweden after a ski-trip, when they made the unnerving discovery on the wall of the rural homestead – coming across a painting with a seemingly very familiar face.

"Just arrived at our secluded rural B&B to find a painting of our youngest child depicted as a small girl, the writer shared on Twitter.

"There's absolutely no terrifying precedent for this, so it's probably fine," she joked.

Ms Stevenson told The Mirror her daughter first made the connection, saying how the girl in the artwork looked like her seven-year-old brother, just with long hair.

"My daughter just went, 'Mum, there's a picture of Barney on the wall,'" she told the publication. The artwork is believed to be by Swedish painter Carl Larsson.

The mum said Barney and the rest of the children thought it was quite funny, and decided to share their faces side-by-side on social media, with the post quickly racking up more than a million views.

"Barney was planning on becoming a doctor who was so good at medicine he could rid the world of all disease and/or an engineer, but says that now he is already famous, there's no need to bother," she joked.

Many online seemed to agree the resemblance was a little too close for comfort, labelling it "spooky" and "uncanny".

She also updated everyone to say that the family "survived the night" and are now "safely 300km south".

"Did wake at on point to hear an unusual papery sound, as though someone was flipping the pages of a book," she tweeted.
