Fake delivery driver charged over shooting

A man has been charged with the attempted shooting murder of another man at a Sydney gym, with police alleging he posed as a fake delivery driver before firing at the gym.

A 20-year-old Campsie man was arrested at 4am on Wednesday and slapped with ten charges, including shoot at with intent to murder.

He was refused bail and is set to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.

Police will allege he disguised himself as a delivery driver before firing on the gym.

CCTV of the man was released in February by police as they probed the incident at Top Gear Gym on Wentworthville Ave in Wentworthville.

Officers were called to the premises on February 20 after gunshots were reported.

Shortly after, a burned motor scooter was found on Fulton Ave near Westmead Hospital, located five minutes from the site of the shooting. The blaze was extinguished and the bike was taken into evidence.

No one was reported injured in either event.

Both crime scenes were examined by Parramatta City Police and State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad, a 19-year-old was originally charged in relation to the alleged shooting and remains before the court.

The 20-year-old man is facing charges of shoot at with intent to murder, discharge firearm intend cause grievous bodily harm, fire firearm in or near public place, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, possess unauthorised pistol, face blackened or disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, unlawfully possess thing resembles number plate and two counts of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
