Explosions rocked Belgorod, Russia, the pro-Kremlin Telegram channel BAZA claimed on March 14.

Local residents said they witnessed smoke in the area near the railway station in the city center.

Local authorities have not yet commented on the incident. A missile threat was earlier declared in Belgorod.

Russian air defenses allegedly shot down eight drones over the region in the morning, according to the regional governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov. Six people were injured and one man was killed in the attack, Gladcov claimed. A drone hit a car on the highway, eyewitnesses said.

The Russian Defense Ministry earlier claimed to have destroyed 14 drones with their air defense systems, including 11 over Belgorod Oblast and four over Kursk Oblast.

Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC) called on residents of Belgorod and Kursk oblasts to evacuate immediately and announced that they would open fire on military targets in these oblasts in response to Russian shelling of Ukraine, Denis Nikitin, head of RVC said on March 14.

The Freedom of Russia Legion, the Russian Volunteer Corps, and the Siberian Battalion, all composed of Russian citizens, crossed the border into Russia on March 12. They announced the start of an operation to “liberate the Russian Federation from dictatorship.” According to preliminary data, it is taking place in Russia’s Belgorod and Kursk oblasts.

The Russian Freedom Legion later announced its control over part of the village of Tiotkino in Kursk Oblast, with the advance ongoing. The ASTRA Telegram channel, citing sources, reported that at least four Russian soldiers were killed, and nine others wounded in massive drone attacks and volunteer raids on March 12.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin referred to the volunteer raid in an interview with propagandists, labeling it an attempt to disrupt the “elections” in Russia and gain leverage in the upcoming peace talks.
