Police have declared an exclusion zone after as firefighters work to contain a massive industrial fire south of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called after reports there was a fire in a steel building at on Kingston Rd, Kingston, in Logan, about 10pm on Thursday.

An evacuation centre was established at the Kingston butter factory.

A woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s were taken to Logan Hospital in stable conditions for medical concerns as smoke continues to billow through the area.

An exclusion zone remains in place, with residents living along the Kingston Rd, Juers Rd, Skyline Dr, Jacaranda Ave and Hibiscus St evacuated as a precaution.

It’s understood two petrol stations are close to the fire, with paramedics remaining on standby.

The fire is reportedly producing large amounts of smoke, which is expected to impact the surrounding area over the next several hours.

Residents in the vicinity are being urged to close windows and doors and keep respiratory medications close by.

Traffic diversions remain in place.
