EV owner goes on epic 1,100km drive to find country's best charging station
A travel-mad British EV owner has trekked over 1,100km across the country with the aim of discovering the most picturesque car charging point in the UK.
Steph Robinson, an influencer who has 140,000 followers, spent over 14 hours during a three-day travelling mission to find the perfect spot to boost her electric car. Her journey saw the traveller go from beautiful spots in the Lake District to the stunning depths of Devon, seemingly all in the name of showing off the ease of EVs.
The Škoda Enyaq 85 was her trusted mode of transport for the expedition, providing a whopping 560 kms per charge.
Steph wanted to show how brilliant travelling can be in Britain, while also dispelling range anxiety when it comes to electric vehicles.
“I really wanted to show people how beautiful the UK is and that you can travel the country in an EV, you don’t have to jump on a plane to have an adventure!
“I hope I proved that it can be done cheaper and more sustainably,” she said.

“It was such a relaxing trip. I just cruised from location to location with the window down, enjoying the sunshine, exploring new places and finding gorgeous hidden nooks."
In the first four months of the year, 15.7 per cent of new car sales in the UK were electric as the country hurtles towards mass adoption. At the end of May 2024, there were around 1.7 million plug-in cars on British roads, with more than 1.1 million fully electric, according to the latest data.
EV road trip
Day one kicked off when she set out from her home in Whitley Bay, Newcastle, on June 19.
The first stint on the road racked up an impressive 140km drive to Ullswater, the Lake District. Steph charged her car while taking in the magnificent sunny views of the remote charging point. Not wasting any time, she then set off to her second point of interest, located 300Kms away in the forest of Coed y Brenin, Dolgellau.
This particular charging location is surrounded by endless stretches of nature, where both she and the Škoda could recharge for the evening.
The second day of the trip saw her take on a whopping five-hour journey landing her in the hustle and bustle of London.
On the third and final day, Steph drove 240kms through the countryside to visit a charging station in Devon. The last stop was positioned in the entryway of the 119-year-old neo-Elizabethan Bovey Castle. Just 80kms from her previous spot, the traveller completed her final charge of the trip surrounded by the views of Dartmoor National Park.
The eco-traveller’s favourite location was Another Place Hotel in the Lake District, thanks to the beautiful mountain and lake scenery.
“The location also proved to be the perfect charging spot for hikers, with a range of walking trails in the surrounding areas,” she said.
As the UK drives head first into the EV transition, her videos about the trip racked up thousands of views with hundreds of thousands of followers flocking to the post to share their awe at the views that provide a backdrop to some of the country’s EV charging infrastructure.
