ESPN Analyst Dick Vitale Announces Serious Health Update and Upcoming Surgery

Dick Vitale, 85, has announced a serious health update. Once again, the ESPN college basketball analyst was diagnosed with cancer, he revealed via social media.

On Friday, June 28, Vitale took to X, formerly Twitter, to share the disappointing news.

"My report on the Biopsy of the Lymph Node in my neck has arrived & it is cancerous," he wrote. "With all the 🙏🙏🙏 I have received & the loving support of my family, friends & @espn colleagues I will win this battle."

Vitale also noted that he will undergo surgery on Tuesday, July 2. "🙏🙏🙏" it "will be a success," he concluded. "Thanks for All the prayers."

In the comments, X users shared their support. The official NCAA March Madness account wrote, "We are all with you Dickie V."

Fellow College GameDay host Rece Davis commented, "Prayers for you Dickie V."

Meanwhile, columnist and TV analyst for CBS Sports Gary Parrish shared, "We all love you, Dick. Your fight and attitude is admirable. Stay as strong as you can. You're in our thoughts."

The Padres Nation X account echoed, "You’re a legend, Dick Sports world is rooting for you."

Vitale was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2021, just months after undergoing surgeries to remove melanoma. In 2022, the sports analyst shared he was cancer-free. Unfortunately, he revealed he had vocal cord cancer in 2023 and had surgery shortly afterward.

Since 1979, Vitale has worked for ESPN; he even called the network's first college basketball broadcast. His catchphrase, "Awesome, baby," has become a mainstay when announcing.
