Environmentalists outraged over Coles’ plastic bag ban backflip

Supermarket giant Coles say it’ll hand out reusable plastic bags for free indefinitely following a customer backlash.

One month ago Coles banned single-use plastic bags and started charging $0.15 for slightly larger ‘reusable’ plastic bags.

Customers were unhappy, so Coles decided to give the bags away for free. This giveaway was meant to end today (August 1) but according to Newscorp papers, Coles will continue to give away the reusable bags away ‘indefinitely’.

Environmentalists have slammed the news, saying it’s counter-productive and a disaster for the environment.
